The Nectar Endpoint Client (referred to as EPC) proactively tests key metrics by generating test calls, ensuring your organization maintains reliable communications across its network.
When you initiate a test, EPC will simulate a call from a hub to a designated endpoint, such as a user device, and record various metrics for analysis.
Peer-to-Peer Testing
Peer-to-Peer testing is the most commonly used method within EPC.
During a Peer-to-Peer test, EPC generates a call to the selected endpoint, recording metrics including:
- Packet Loss Rate
- Packet Out of Order Rate
- Packet Average Jitter
- Estimated Bandwidth Available
- Test endpoint IP address/port
- Public IP Address
- Test result health ratingMetrics ListPlease note that this list doesn't include all listed metrics.
Tests can be designated as failed if packets are not being received in one or both directions.
VoIP Testing
EPC can also perform VoIP call tests to validate network readiness and confirm proper configurations.
Using VoIP testing allows your organization to:
- Identify issues before they impact live VoIP calls.
- Validate that network configurations are set appropriately.
- Confirm the network can handle expected call traffic efficiently.
These tests help maintain VoIP quality even as networks are updated by IT personnel.
Video Testing
Video testing within EPC can be used to validate platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom by creating a mock video conference.
This test ensures video streams are both sent and received correctly, allowing your organization to identify potential issues with video traffic before they impact users.
Common Actions for Failures
- Check Bandwidth Utilization: Ensure sufficient capacity during peak times.
- Use Users Panel: Identify patterns tied to specific hubs, users, or public IPs.
- Confirm Service Provider Status: Use listed Public IP to check for outages or regional degradation.
EPC Testing Use Cases
EPC assists your organization in three primary areas:
1. Monitoring Network Readiness – Verifying that the network is up and capable of supporting calls.
2. Validating Network Expansion – Ensuring new areas of the network can handle the call volumes they will support.
3. Identifying Public IP Associations – Determining which public IP a user belongs to for troubleshooting regional issues.
