    Proactive Testing

    Article summary

    When you click on the Platform tab, you will see the Proactive Testing option, which provides the capability to perform proactive monitoring and testing to find issues before they become serious. This page has the following sections:

    • Filters
    • Total Tests
    • Test Sessions
    • Tests Overview

    Filters

    You can view specific data using the filters at the top of the page, which are applied to all sections on the Proactive Testing page. The filters are described in the following table. Click Apply to apply any changes you make.

    Filter

    Description

    Time Period

    Select the time period you want to monitor/test from the following:

    • Hour
    • Day
    • 7 Days
    • 30 Days
    • Custom - Click this option to open a calendar to select a single day or date range.

    Corporate Location

    Click in the Search field and start entering characters to populate the list of locations. Select one or more locations to include in your monitoring/testing.

    Test Type

    Select (or de-select) the test type(s) to be used from the following options:

    • Audio
    • P2P (Peer-to-Peer)
    • Ping
    • Video

    Test Result

    Select (or de-select) the test results you want to view from the following options:

    • Pass
    • Fail
    • Unknown
    • Incomplete

    Nectar Score

    Select (or de-select) the Nectar scores you want to view from the following options:

    • Good (80-100%)
    • Average (60-80%)
    • Poor (0-60%)
    • Unknown

    Ext. Location City

    Click in the Search field and start entering characters to populate the list of cities. Select one or more cities to include in the monitoring/testing.

    Ext. Location Country

    Click in the Search field and start entering characters to populate the list of countries. Select one or more countries to include in the monitoring/testing.

    ISP

    Click in the Search field and start entering characters to populate the list of Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Select one or more ISPs that you want to monitor/test.

    Users/Endpoints

    Click in the Search field and start entering characters to populate the list of users/endpoints. Select one or more users/endpoints that you want to monitor/test.

    Test Errors

    Select one or more testing errors you want to monitor/test, such as 500 Server Internal Error and 504 Server Time-out.

    • To automatically update the monitoring/testing data, select the Auto update check box.

    Note:
    This feature is not available for these time periods: 7 Days, 30 Days, or Custom.
    • To reset the filters to the default values, click Reset Filter. 

    Total Tests

    This section provides the following testing data:

    • Total Tests - Provides the total number of tests performed.
    • Passed Tests - Provides the total number of tests that passed.
    • Failed Tests - Provides the total number of tests that failed.
    • Incomplete Tests - Provides the total number of tests that were incomplete.
    • Unknown Tests - Provides the total number of tests that are unknown.

    It also has the following two tabs:

    • Default
    • Custom

    Default

    This section shows the testing results for both HUB Endpoints and Endpoints (1).

    • The results provide the Testing Success percentages (7) and number of tests performed (8) for the selected endpoints (3).
    • The data is also viewable on the map to the right (5).

    • Notice the box in the map area (4). You can use it to select whether to view All Endpoints, HUB Endpoints only, or Endpoints only.
    • The selection also updates the data that appears on the Default tab (2).
    • Click the arrows (9) to toggle to show or hide the endpoints testing data.   
    • Click on the Test Success % (7) or Number of Tests (8) column title to change the sort order of the data.
    • Click on one of the circles on the map to open another panel to see the testing results.

    • Click on an endpoint in that panel to go to the USERS page for more information on the endpoint.
    • You can also view the testing results for “Undefined Locations,” as shown below.  

    Custom

    You can use the Custom tab to select and customize the HUB endpoints and/or endpoints that are used for monitoring/testing.

    1. Click on the Custom tab (6) to open.
    2. Click the Edit button to open another panel. 
    3. Click in the Search field and start entering characters to populate the list of endpoints.
    4. Select one or more endpoints to include in the monitoring/testing.
    5. Click Apply. The endpoint data is updated on the Custom tab and on the map.  
    6. Notice the box in the map area. 
    7. You can click the drop-down and select whether to view All Endpoints, HUB Endpoints only, or Endpoints only. The selection also updates the data that appears on the Custom tab.
    8. Click the arrows to toggle to show or hide the endpoints testing data on the Custom tab. 
    9. Click on one of the circles on the map to open another panel to see the testing results.  
    10. Click on an endpoint in that panel to go to the USERS page for more information on the endpoint.

    Test Sessions

    This section provides session test data in a bar graph for the selected time period.

            •   Hover over a bar graph to view the totals for each test type by Nectar score.

    Tests Overview

    This section provides an overview of the test results.

    • You can select All tests or Failed tests to see the results in the table.
    • Click the Columns drop-down to select or de-select the columns/data you want to view in the table.
    • Click the Show drop-down to select how many tests to view per page. The default is 10.
    • Click on a test to open a new page (Overview tab) to view more testing results data about the endpoint client test session, as shown below.

    • This page provides data, such as the status of the test, in this case, Pass. It provides the date, time, and duration of the test, external and Corporate locations for the endpoints, type of endpoints (HUB and endpoint), as well as the IPS and any session alerts.
    • It also provides the Health Domains panel for the test. This panel shows the endpoint and network data associated with the test and the Nectar score for each.

    • Click the Advanced tab to view more information about the endpoint and test details.
