    Overview

For security purposes, some clients do not allow a device inside their private network to connect directly to the Internet. In this case one would deploy a Nectar Proxy-RIG in the DMZ. This terminates the connection from the internal RIG (herein called the Monitor-RIG) and creates a separate connection to the CIP.

    Proxy-RIG Configuration

Follow these steps to configure the Proxy-RIG:

    1. Install the Proxy-RIG in the DMZ following the standard RIG installation procedure. For more information, see the Nectar Foundation Installation Guide.
    2. Enter the Customer Identifier as “Customer-Proxy-RIG”.

    Note

The Proxy-RIG does not require a license as it only acts as a “pass through” RIG.

    1. Confirm the registration to the CIP by connecting to the CIP and navigating to Configure > Distributed.

    The Proxy-RIG should be visible.

    Monitor RIG Installation

    This section contains the following:

    Install Monitor RIG
    Manually License Monitor RIG
Redirect Monitor RIG Registration to Proxy RIG

Important After upgrading to v8.7, if you have or plan to manipulate a properties file that uses a file path or directory, then you must verify that you are using the proper backslash (\) or forward slash (/):

    • Windows:

Use double backslash (\\), for example, :\\\\

    or

Use single forward slash (/), for example, ://

    • Linux/iOS:

Use single forward slash (/), for example, //

    Install Monitor RIG

Follow these steps to install the Monitor RIG:

    1. Once again, install the Proxy-RIG in the DMZ following the standard RIG installation procedure. For more information, see the Nectar Foundation Installation Guide.
    2. Enter the Customer Identifier as “Customer-Monitor-RIG”.

    Manually License Monitor RIG

Within the Monitor RIG, perform these steps:

    1. Navigate to Configure > Server License.
    2. Click Copy to Clipboard.
    3. Paste the local identifier to Notepad and save the file as customer-loc-id.txt.
    4. Log into your CIP License Server.
    5. Right-click the required license and select Manual License Issue.
    6. Paste the local identifier from the Notepad file into the Challenge Key window.
    7. Click Issue to generate the license key.
    8. Click Copy to copy the license to the clipboard.
    9. Paste the license key into a new Notepad file and save it as license.txt.
    10. Reconnect to the Monitor RIG.
    11. Navigate to Configure > Server License.
    12. Click Install License.
    13. Open the license.txt file you just created and enter this license key.
    14. After loading the license key, click Reset.

Redirect Monitor RIG Registration to Proxy RIG

By default, the Monitor RIG is configured to register your CIP. This connection should fail as it is being blocked by the client’s firewall.

Next, configure the Monitor RIG to connect to the Proxy RIG by performing the following steps:

    1. Open a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) to the Monitor RIG.
    2. Confirm the Proxy RIG can be pinged by reviewing the Monitor RIG.
    3. Stop both Nectar Services (Nectar RIG Server and Nectar RIG Backup).
    4. Navigate to Start > Run and enter services.msc.
    5. Navigate to the Apps/Nectar/etc directory.
    6. Open the infospot.properties file with Notepad.
    7. You will see the server set to the CIP name (for example, Server = nectar- cip1.nectarvoip.com).
    8. Change the server destination to the IP address of the Proxy RIG (for example, Server = 10.10.10.253).
    9. Restart both Nectar Services (Nectar RIG Server and Nectar RIG Backup).

    4.CIP Configuration

    1. Log into the CIP.
    2. Navigate to Configure > Distributed.

    Note

One should only see the Proxy-RIG.

    1. Right-click the Proxy RIG and select the checkbox labeled Proxied.

    Note

Now the Name text field is activated to be edited.

    1. Append an exclamation mark (!) to the existing name and then paste the customer-loc-id of the Monitor RIG that you saved in Manually License Monitor RIG.

    For example:

    Original Proxy RIG Name:

    99-99-99-99-99-99-1337189923750

    Monitor-RIG ID (customer-loc-id):

    55-55-55-55-55-55-1333474873246

    Final Monitor-RIG Name:

    99-99-99-99-99-99-1337189923750! 55-55-55-55-55-55-1333474873246

In a few moments the Proxy-RIG will re-register with the CIP and will appear in the Configure Distributed list once again.

    1. Ensure the Monitor RIG is added to the proper CIP folder/group.
